Benjamin Earl King - Stand by Me - An immortal song

Ben E. King of the Drifters, Singer of “Stand by Me” and “Spanish Harlem,” Dead at 76 | Showbiz411

Maybe one of the most popular songs worldwide. Written in 1961 by Ben E. King, and later used as soundtrack in the movie "Stand by Me", it has left its own footprint in the music world. He certainly is one my favourite singers, with a very unique singing style; an excellent soul voice.

Although the original version is sang by Ben E. King, many other singers have performed "Stand by Me". John Lennon for example recorded his version of the song for his 1975 album Rock n’ Roll. Lennon's remake became a single three weeks after the album's release and was his last hit prior to his five-year retirement from the music industry.

Later in 2018, King's "Stand by Me" was performed at the wedding of prince Harry and Meghan Markle by Karen Gibson and the Kingdom Choir.
